Pixel Art

The fashion, film and music industries have succumbed to the so-called ‘pixel art’, a digital art discipline that recovers the naïve nature of the primitive pixel.

Pixel AR or pixel art is a form of digital art, created through a computer through the use of raster graphics editing programs, where images are edited at the pixel level. The images of most old PC video games, game consoles and many mobile phone games are considered works of pixel art. It has similarities with pointillism, differing mainly in the tools for creating the images: computers and programs instead of brushes and canvases.

Pixel Art terminology was first published by Adele Goldberg and Robert Flegal, both members of the Xerox Research Center in Palo Alto.
